How to Use the Teaser Calculator
Pick the sport — NFL or NBA — then the number of teams in your teaser (2 to 6) and the teaser points you want to buy: 6, 6.5, or 7 for football, 4, 4.5, or 5 for basketball. Enter your stake. The calculator uses a standard teaser card by default; if your sportsbook prices the teaser differently, type its odds into Your Book's Odds (for example -120 for a 2-team 6-point teaser), in American, decimal or fractional format.
For each leg, enter an optional team name and the original point spread as listed at the sportsbook: negative for favorites (-7.5), positive for underdogs (+2.5). The adjusted spread updates as you type.
The result shows your teaser odds in your format, the total payout and profit, and two break-even numbers: how often the whole teaser has to win (its implied probability), and how often each leg has to win, for the bet to break even. In football, legs that cross both key numbers 3 and 7 are flagged as Wong legs — the only teaser legs that have historically cleared that bar — and favorites teased through zero (say -2 to +4) are flagged as poor value. The result also tells you what a single push does to the bet.
The Formula
Teaser Payout Chart
Teaser payouts come from a fixed odds card, not a formula. The chart below is the classic Vegas NFL teaser card (ties lose) with the profit on a $100 bet. Online sportsbooks often shade these — a 2-team 6-point teaser at -120 or worse is common — so check your book's card and enter its odds in the calculator.

A leg "crosses" a key number when the teaser turns that margin of victory from a loss into a win: teasing the Chiefs from -10 to -4 crosses 7 but not 3.
Practical Examples
Example 1 — 2-Team 6-Point NFL Teaser
- Chiefs -10 → adjusted to -4
- Bills -3 → adjusted to +3
- Teaser odds: -110, stake $110
- Payout if both legs win: $210 (profit: $100)
Break-even is 52.4% for the teaser, or 72.4% per leg. Neither leg here is a Wong leg: the Chiefs cross only 7, and the Bills start and end on 3 without crossing it — a 3-point loss just turns into a push. Both lines look "easier", but this is a below-average teaser.
Example 2 — 3-Team 6-Point Teaser
- Eagles -7 → -1, Cowboys -3 → +3, Ravens -2 → +4
- Teaser odds: +180, stake $100
- Payout if all three legs win: $280 (profit: $180)
The break-even per leg rises to 70.9%. Adding a third leg raises the payout, but every leg still has to clear a high bar for the bet to be worth it.
Example 3 — 4-Team 6-Point Teaser
- Four legs teased 6 points each
- Teaser odds: +300, stake $50
- Payout if all four legs win: $200 (profit: $150)
The teaser itself only needs to win 25.0% of the time, but that requires each leg to win 70.7% — and one loss anywhere sinks the ticket.
NFL Teaser Strategy — The Wong Teaser
Stanford Wong's Sharp Sports Betting popularized a simple rule for 6-point NFL teasers: only tease underdogs of +1.5 to +2.5 (up to +7.5 to +8.5) and favorites of -7.5 to -8.5 (down to -1.5 to -2.5). These are the only moves that cross both 3 and 7 — the two most common NFL margins of victory. Historically, these legs have won roughly 72–75% of the time, just above the 72.4% a 2-team teaser at -110 needs. At -120 the bar rises to 73.9%, which is why the price your book charges matters as much as the legs you pick.

A teaser is a parlay in which you move the point spread or total in your favor by a set number of points — typically 6, 6.5, or 7 in the NFL — in exchange for a lower payout. All legs must still win, just like a parlay. The extra points make each leg easier to win, and the reduced odds reflect that.
On the classic Vegas card a 2-team 6-point teaser is priced at -110, so a $100 bet wins $90.91 (total return $190.91). Many online sportsbooks price it at -120, where $100 wins $83.33. Enter your book's odds in the calculator to see your exact payout and break-even.
On the standard card a 3-team 6-point teaser pays +180 ($100 wins $180) and a 4-team 6-point teaser pays +300 ($100 wins $300). At 6.5 and 7 points the payouts drop: +165 and +150 for 3 teams, +275 and +260 for 4 teams. 5- and 6-team teasers typically pay around +450 and +600 at 6 points. Exact cards vary by sportsbook.
In the NFL, 6 points is usually the best value. The extra half-point or full point rarely changes the result, but it costs noticeably more: a 2-team teaser goes from -110 at 6 points to -120 at 6.5 and -130 at 7. The main exception is a line that needs the extra half-point to cross 3 or 7.
The key numbers are 3 and 7, the most common NFL margins of victory (a field goal and a touchdown). The best 6-point teaser legs cross both: underdogs of +1.5 to +2.5 teased up to +7.5 to +8.5, and favorites of -7.5 to -8.5 teased down to -1.5 to -2.5. These are known as Wong teaser legs. A favorite of -2.5 teased to +3.5 crosses only 3, and a -10 favorite teased to -4 crosses only 7.
It depends on house rules. Most sportsbooks drop the pushed leg and grade the teaser as one fewer team — a 3-team teaser with a push becomes a 2-team teaser. On a 2-team teaser, some books void the bet while 'ties lose' cards grade a push as a loss. Check your sportsbook's teaser rules before betting.
Most teasers are poor bets. A 2-team teaser at -110 needs to win 52.4% of the time, which means each leg must win about 72.4%. Typical teased NFL legs win less than that. Wong legs that cross both 3 and 7 have historically won around 72–75%, making 2-team Wong teasers roughly break-even to slightly profitable at -110, but usually not at -120 or worse. Teasers with 3 or more teams compound the house edge and are almost always long-term losers.
A parlay combines multiple bets at their original lines and multiplies their odds together. A teaser also requires every leg to win, but moves each line in your favor in exchange for a much smaller payout set by a fixed card. A 2-team parlay at -110 pays about +264, while a 2-team 6-point teaser pays -110.
Yes. NBA and college basketball teasers usually offer 4, 4.5, or 5 points, and college football uses the same 6, 6.5, and 7-point cards as the NFL. Because basketball lacks key numbers and college football margins are more spread out, those teasers give less value than well-chosen NFL teasers.
